Okay, so I’ve been wanting to dive into this whole “Australian model plus size” thing for a while now, and today I finally took the plunge. It all started with seeing some amazing photos on Instagram, and I just had to figure out how they got those shots.
First, I scoured the internet for some inspiration. I mean, I typed in “Australian plus size models” and “beachy plus size fashion” and just went down a rabbit hole of gorgeous images. I saved a bunch to a Pinterest board, trying to get a feel for the overall vibe.

Next, I needed to find some clothes. This was probably the trickiest part. I wanted that effortless, beachy look, but also something that flattered my curves. I ended up hitting up a few of my favorite online stores that I know carry extended sizes. I ordered a couple of flowy dresses, a wide-brimmed hat (essential!), and some cute sandals.
While I was waiting for the clothes to arrive, I started thinking about location. Obviously, a beach would be ideal, but I also wanted to find somewhere that felt a bit more… secluded. I remembered this little hidden cove a few miles from my place, so I decided to check it out. It was perfect! Golden sand, turquoise water, and hardly anyone around.
The Big Day
Once the clothes arrived, I was so excited! I tried everything on, making sure it all fit well and felt comfortable. I even practiced a few poses in the mirror (don’t judge!).
Then, I packed up my car with everything I needed: the clothes, the hat, some sunscreen (gotta protect that skin!), a towel, and my camera. It was a gorgeous sunny day, so I was feeling pretty good about it.
- Clothes: Check!
- Hat: Check
- Sunscreen: Got it!
- Camera: Ready to go!
When I got to the cove, I spent some time just soaking in the atmosphere. I wanted to feel relaxed and confident before I started taking pictures. And I wanted to walk around to scout good spots.
Then, it was time! I set up my camera on a tripod and started snapping away. I tried to channel those confident, carefree vibes I’d seen in the photos I saved. Honestly, it was so much fun! I felt amazing, just twirling around in the sand and feeling the sun on my skin.
I took a ton of photos, experimenting with different poses and angles. Some of them were definitely awkward (let’s be real, posing is hard!), but I also got some really great shots that I’m super proud of.
Afterward, I packed everything back up, feeling exhausted but also totally exhilarated. It was such a fun and empowering experience, and I can’t wait to do it again!
