So today I figured I’d tackle the Estadio de Mendizorroza situation myself. You know, that stadium? Yeah, saw some photos online and thought, “How hard could it be?” Famous last words, right? Grabbed my notebook and pencil – old school style – sat down at the kitchen table.

The Big Plan Phase
First, I kinda just stared at a blank page for a good ten minutes. Needed a plan. Sketching stuff always helps me. Drew this big oval shape for the field. Made it real wonky, like a squished potato kinda thing. Whatever, it was MY squished potato. Then I scribbled some wonky lines for stands all around it. Thinking about seats… man, so many seats. Decided to sketch tiny dots everywhere. Hurt my hand.
Getting the Stuff
Okay, blueprint looked okay-ish. Time to build. Went rummaging. Found materials like:
- Thick cardboard from an Amazon box
- Like, maybe 2 lbs of modeling clay? Was pretty dry.
- White paint from when we touched up the ceiling. Kinda crusty.
- Green felt scrap from who knows what.
- Old markers, some dried up.
Not exactly professional supplies. But hey, it’s DIY!
Building Disaster Mode
Cut the cardboard for the base. Used a bread knife – terrible idea. Edges looked like a rat chewed ’em. Piled on most of the clay for the stands, tried to smooth it out. Felt like playing with cold mashed potatoes. Spread the green felt for the pitch. Didn’t stick well. Used half a roll of tape underneath. Started painting the stands white. Paint was too thick, clumpy. Messy splotches everywhere. Looked like bird poop kinda. Tried to draw seats with a shaky hand – little crosses everywhere. Got tired. Lines wobbled. Tried adding details with markers – roof? Flaps! Lighting? Tiny little sticks! Fell over twice.

The Final “Masterpiece”
Stood back to look. Proud? Sorta? Honestly, it looks like something my kid made. Lopsided, messy paint, felt bubbling up in spots. The scale is way off – pitch too small, stands too tall. Looks stressed, just like me while making it! But hey, it’s finished. It kinda, sorta resembles the real thing… if you squint. Hard. And maybe close one eye.
Learned a lot? Mostly that stadiums are complicated. And that dry clay sucks. But it was fun. Messy fun.
