Opened it up, scrolled straight to Germany’s section.
And there it was. Plain as day. Listed them all out, players 1 through… well, guess how many?

The Final Count (And the Real Headache)
Tallying them up properly:
- 3 Goalkeepers
- 8 Defenders
- 10 Midfielders (including Reus, though he got injured before playing!)
- 1 Forward (Klose!)
That makes it crystal clear: Joachim Low selected 23 players for his official 2014 World Cup squad list submitted to FIFA. Confirmed, stamped, official.
So why the confusion out there? Man, it’s frustrating. People probably mix up the preliminary squad announced weeks earlier – Low did name more players initially, around 30 or so. But by the deadline, he had to whittle it down to the maximum 23 allowed players for the tournament roster. Seems like some sites never bothered to check the final, binding list. They just ran with the initial bigger group or threw names together. Absolute nightmare for someone just wanting a simple answer like “how many”.
