So today I wanted to figure out how Portsmouth and Leeds are actually stackin’ up lately. Heard some chatter at the pub, figured I’d dig into the numbers myself instead of just taking folks’ word for it.

First thing I did was grab my laptop. Cracked it open, fired up the browser. Typed out the name of this popular football stats site I always use – you know the one. Took a minute to load, always does. Annoying.
Started easy. Searched for “Portsmouth standings”. Page loaded up – bunch of tables, numbers everywhere. Scrolled past the ads. Their record right now popped out: Played 46 games, won 28. Draws? Loads of ’em, like 13! Only lost 5. Points? Solid 97 points.
Okay, League One it is then. Makes sense, remember them being there. Champions? Bloody right they are! Top spot clear as day.
Switched gears. Searched for “Leeds United standings”. Different league, obviously. Page loaded faster this time. Scanned the Premier League table found ’em quick.
- Games played? Way less – only 37 so far.
- Wins? 22 isn’t bad.
- Draws? Just 6.
- Losses? 9 hurts.
- Points? Sitting on 72.
Position? Third place. Not champions like Pompey, but still high up there, fighting near the top.

Then I got curious. “Why compare these two specifically?” Clicked around a bit. Found some old forum threads buried deep. People arguing about history, fanbase size, stuff like that. Leeds used to be giants ages ago? Portsmouth won some FA Cups? Honestly? Felt kinda forced. Like comparing apples and oranges just ’cause both are fruit.
The numbers told the real story though:
- Portsmouth: Smashed League One, massive point haul.
- Leeds: Battling hard in the Premier League, third isn’t shabby.
No magic secret here. Looked up the stats, wrote ’em down like always. Portsmouth’s doing great down a level, Leeds is holdin’ their own way higher up. Different beasts entirely.
