So yeah, yesterday I wanted to know how Barcelona and Mallorca were really doing before their next game. You hear stuff online, right? Figured best way is just to look at their last five matches myself. Simple.
Where I started looking
First thing, I opened up my laptop. Went straight to a couple of the big football stats sites I usually check. Not naming names, you know the ones. Typed “Barcelona” into the search bar, clicked their team page. Scrolled down looking for recent match results. There it was, usually under “Fixtures” or “Results”. Had to find the last five they actually played.
Did the exact same thing for Mallorca. Searched their name, found their team page, hunted for that last five fixtures list.
The messy part of writing it down
Okay, time for pen and paper. Honestly, just grabbed a notebook off my desk. Drew two columns: Barcelona on the left, Mallorca on the right. Started writing down each match date, the opponent, and the score.
Looked like this:
- Barca Match 1: Lost 3-5 vs some team, Copa something… Damn, had to look up the exact opponent!
- Barca Match 2: Won 1-0 vs another team – La Liga match.
- Barca Match 3: Drew 3-3? Wait, no! 3-3 was the one before that? Needed to double-check dates!
It took longer than I thought. Kept mixing up the order or getting opponent names slightly wrong. Went back and forth between the browser tabs like ten times. Annoying.
What stood out immediately
Barcelona: You see it right away. Their scores are all over the place! One match they win comfortable, next they lose kinda badly, then they scrape a win, then they draw. No real pattern. Looked shaky.
Mallorca: Different story. First reaction? Oof, not much scoring going on. Three draws popped out, all low scores like 0-0, 1-1. Then saw they actually won one 1-0 recently! Against a decent side too. And one loss, but only 1-0.
Pulling it together
Finally had all five for each side written down clearly. Started counting:
- Barcelona’s Last Five: Looked… inconsistent. Two wins, one draw, two losses.
- Mallorca’s Last Five: Felt… tougher to beat? One win, three draws, one loss. And those draws weren’t blowouts. Tight games.
Glanced back at my notebook.
Said out loud: “Huh. Mallorca’s grinding out points way more than I expected lately. Draw kings. Barca? Who knows which version shows up?” Felt like Mallorca might just make it really difficult for anyone, you know?
Why did I bother?
Honestly? This friend of mine, Marco, always has an opinion. Talks like he knows exactly how every game will go. Saw him yesterday morning bragging about Barcelona smashing Mallorca easily soon.
I thought… “Hang on, I’m not so sure.” Didn’t wanna argue without some ammo. Felt too lazy to remember all the results myself. So yeah, spent the 20 minutes digging so I didn’t sound like an idiot next time Marco starts spouting off.
Basically. Now I got my notes ready. We’ll see.
