56 days ago, I decided to start a new experiment – trying to live a minimalist life. At first, it was super hard. I mean, I’m used to having a lot of stuff around me, you know?

I began by decluttering my room. I went through all my clothes, books, and random knick – knacks. I started throwing out or donating things I hadn’t used in ages. It was like a battle between me and my hoarding instinct. I remember looking at this old t – shirt that I’d had since high school. It had a big stain on it, but I just couldn’t let it go at first. But then I thought, “Come on, when was the last time you wore this? Like, ever?” So I finally chucked it.
Next, I cut down on my digital clutter. I deleted a bunch of apps on my phone that I never opened. There were so many! Games that I’d played once and then forgot about, shopping apps that just sent me endless notifications. It was like cleaning out a digital closet. And I also unsubscribed from tons of email newsletters. I mean, who really needs 50 emails a day telling you about sales you’ll never take advantage of?
Then, I changed my shopping habits. Before, I’d just buy stuff on a whim. But in these 56 days, I started asking myself, “Do I really need this?” every time I saw something I wanted. Like, I saw this really cool looking coffee mug in a store. It was all shiny and had a funny quote on it. But I already had three coffee mugs at home. So I walked away. It was tough, but I did it.
Another thing I did was simplify my daily routine. I used to have this super complicated morning routine with like ten different skincare products. I cut it down to just the basics – cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen. And I stopped spending hours on social media every day. Instead, I started reading books or going for walks in the morning. It was amazing how much more time I had.
So far, this 56 – day experiment has had a huge impact on my life. I feel less stressed, and my room is so much cleaner. I’ve also saved some money by not buying unnecessary stuff. I’m not saying I’ve become a perfect minimalist, but this experience has definitely made me think about how much we really need in our lives. And I’m gonna keep going with it, see where it takes me.
