Well, I started this little exploration by first grabbing the 2009 – 2010 premiership table. I mean, you can’t learn from it if you don’t have it in front of you, right? I printed it out so I could scribble on it and make notes, old – school style.
Then I sat down at my kitchen table and started looking at the teams at the top. Manchester United was up there, as usual. I remember thinking, “What the heck are they doing right?” So I started jotting down the obvious stuff. They had some great players, of course, but I also noticed they had a pretty consistent performance throughout the season. They didn’t have those big dips where they’d lose three or four games in a row.
I moved on to the middle – of – the – table teams. These guys were the real mystery to me. They weren’t bad, but they weren’t great either. I started looking at their win – loss records game by game. It was like a puzzle. Some teams seemed to do well against the bottom teams but couldn’t hold their own against the top dogs. It was like they were saving all their energy for the easy games.
Next, I took a hard look at the teams at the bottom. West Bromwich Albion and Burnley were struggling. I could see they had a lot of losses, but what really stood out was their lack of goals. They just couldn’t put the ball in the net. It made me think about how important offense is in football. You can have the best defense in the world, but if you can’t score, you’re not going to win many games.
I also compared the home and away records of each team. Some teams were absolute monsters at home but turned into wimps on the road. It made me wonder what was going on there. Was it the pressure of playing in front of their own fans? Or maybe the travel was getting to them.
After spending hours poring over the table, I started to draw some conclusions. I realized that consistency is key in football. You can’t just have a few great games and then disappear for the rest of the season. And offense matters, a lot. You need to be able to score goals if you want to win.

So, that’s my whole process of learning from the 2009 – 2010 premiership table. It was a fun little project, and I think I learned a thing or two about football and how teams perform.
