So, I decided to try out this “false 9 soccer” thing. First, I gathered my soccer gear. I grabbed my trusty soccer ball, laced up my cleats, and put on my shin guards. I was ready to hit the field.

I got to the soccer field and started warming up. I jogged around the field a few times, did some stretches, and then started passing the ball against the wall to get my touch right. It felt good to be back on the grass, even though it was a bit chilly that day.
Once I was warmed up, I started practicing the false 9 position. I knew the basic idea was to drop deep and create space for the other players. So, I started by standing in the middle of the field, kind of like a striker, but then I started moving back towards the midfield.
I tried to receive the ball with my back to the goal and then turn quickly to face the opposition’s defense. It was harder than I thought! The first few times I tried to turn, I lost the ball. But I kept at it. I focused on using my body to shield the ball and my feet to control it.
As I was practicing, I noticed that when I dropped deep, it really opened up space for my imaginary teammates. I could see how this could work in a real game. I started to think about how I could communicate better with my teammates if I was playing this position. Maybe I could make some eye contact and give them a little nod to let them know where I was going to be.
After a while, I started to get the hang of it. I was able to receive the ball, turn, and then make a pass to an open area. It was a great feeling. I even managed to take a few shots on goal from some unexpected angles. Some of them were way off, but a couple of them were pretty close.

By the end of my practice session, I was pretty tired but also really excited. I felt like I had learned a lot. I realized that playing the false 9 position requires a lot of awareness, good ball control, and the ability to think quickly. It’s not just about standing in one place and waiting for the ball.
I’m looking forward to trying this out in a real game. I think it could really change the way our team plays. And who knows, maybe I’ll even score a few goals in this new position!
