Alright so today I figured I’d break down that Barcelona versus Real Sociedad match, specifically how they lined up and who did what. Saw some interesting stuff and just had to write it down. Started totally from scratch.

Where I Began
First thing, I grabbed my laptop, a cold coffee (it got warm later, ugh), and plopped down on the couch. Pulled up the replay of the whole match – gotta see it live, highlights don’t cut it, right? Needed the real picture.
Paused it right at kickoff. Squinted at the screen like, “Okay, what mess are we lookin’ at here?” Barcelona had this shape… kinda like four blokes at the back, then three in the middle, and three up front trying to cause trouble. Standard for them mostly, but players move, man, it gets messy.
Digging Into Each Spot
I focused bit by bit. Started at the back:
- Koundé on the right: This guy kept running up and down like a headless chicken sometimes. Looked fast but Real Sociedad kept trying to get behind him. Stressed me out just watching!
- Araujo in the center: Absolute brick wall. Seriously, this dude just stood there like a mountain. Every time Real Sociedad got close, he just barged in and took the ball. No fancy stuff, just pure muscle. Loved seeing it.
- Christensen next to him: Much calmer, smoother mover. Didn’t shout much but got the job done. Passed the ball out nice and simple most times.
- Balde on the left: Zoom zoom! This kid is crazy fast. Spent half the game sprinting down the wing like his life depended on it. Didn’t always cross well, but dang he stretched them out.
Then the middle. Oh boy, the middle.
- Gundo… whatever his long name is: Sat real deep at first, like the quarterback. Tried to pick passes, looked kinda okay but not amazing. Then BAM, suddenly he was practically playing striker! Near the goal, almost scored. Made my head spin tracking him.
- Frenkie de Jong:
- Pedri: Pure class. Moves the ball so smooth, finds gaps you don’t even see. Kept things ticking, made it look easy. Even won the ball back a few times quietly.

Engine room. Just kept moving, linking stuff. Had the ball glued to his feet sometimes, dribbling out of tight spots. Everywhere at once. Him and Gundo switching positions constantly – confusing even for me watching!
Up front:
- Raphinha right side: All hustle. Worked his socks off chasing everything. Had a few shots that went into the stands though. Gotta work on that finish, mate.
- Lewandowski middle: The big man. Looked a bit rusty? Missed an easy chance early on, ouch. But kept trying, held the ball up okay. Needs service.
- Ferran left side: Annoyed defenders, ran into channels. Had one really nice chance but the keeper made a great save. Pity.
The Headaches and Realizations
Hardest part was seeing how Gundo and Frenkie were messing around. One minute Frenkie’s deeper, next minute Gundo’s leading the charge! Kept scribbling arrows on my notepad, crossing stuff out. Dang near impossible to pin them down. Also, that right side – Raphinha trying hard, but Koundé racing forward left space. Felt uneasy.
Oh, and Gavi came on later! Pure chaos ball. Running into tackles like crazy. Added some serious bite.
Wrapping My Head Around It
Sat back after the final whistle. Looked at the bunch of stuff I wrote down – arrows, squiggly lines, notes like “Gundo? Where??”. Got a clearer picture though:
Barca stuck mostly to their guns. Pedri kept things elegant. Frenkie was the everywhere man. Lewa just needs better chances. The back held strong thanks to Araujo basically being a superhero. But man, that midfield swap thing with Gundo and Frenkie? Weird but kinda worked sometimes. The shape shifted constantly. Not always controlled, that’s for sure.

Interesting match. Made me appreciate the dirty work Araujo does, and how frantic Frenkie really is. Coffee’s gone cold now. Worth it.
