Getting Started with My Calendar Project
So today I thought, why not make my own August 2024 calendar instead of buying one? Grabbed an old unused sketchbook, my trusty black ballpoint pen, and the cheapest glue stick from the dollar store. Figured it couldn’t be that hard, right?
First I flipped to a blank page and sketched super light pencil lines for the grid – 7 rows for weeks, 6 columns counting weekends. Messed this up twice because the spacing looked crooked. Third time’s the charm! Used the edge of my notebook as a makeshift ruler since my actual ruler went missing last week.
Next came the fun part: writing dates. Started counting days from July 28th to fill the first row since August 1st is a Thursday. Got confused around August 17th – wrote “16” twice like an absolute potato. Had to scratch it out with such force the paper nearly tore. Lesson learned: keep Google Calendar open while numbering!

- Tried drawing sunflowers in the corners but they ended up looking like fried eggs
- Glued construction paper strips that instantly curled up like bacon
- Spilled coffee on July 30th square – turned it into “rustic stain art”
Finished by scribbling reminders for trash days and bills. Realized too late that I made all Sundays red using my only pen. Now dentist appointments blend with holidays. Oh well, at least I stuck some glitter on national cat day!
Final Thoughts on My Frankenstein Calendar
Honestly? Looks like a kindergartener’s art project survived a hurricane. But flipping through it feels strangely satisfying. That ugly coffee stain reminds me to clean my mug, and the lopsided grid has charm. Might actually use this hot mess instead of my phone calendar next month!
