Okay, so I’ve been on this huge fragrance kick lately, especially with summer rolling in. I wanted to find some good unisex scents, you know, something that’s not too girly and not too cologne-y. Just fresh and clean, perfect for hot weather.

First, I started by just browsing online, looking at what other people were recommending. I made a list of ones that sounded interesting, mostly based on the descriptions. I wanted something with citrus notes, maybe some woody or green notes too. Nothing too heavy or sweet.

My Experiment Begins

Then, the fun part! I went to a big department store that has tons of perfume counters. I felt a little overwhelmed at first, but I just grabbed a bunch of those little paper strips and started spraying.

  • I sprayed each one on a separate strip and labeled it with the name.
  • I made sure to smell coffee beans in between each one to “reset” my nose. (They have little containers of them sitting out – lifesaver!)
  • I took notes on my phone about each fragrance, like my first impressions and how it changed over time.

Honestly, it was a bit of a process. Some were way too strong, some were too floral, some just smelled… weird. But I did find a few that I really liked!

I narrowed it down to my top three, and then I did the ultimate test: I sprayed one on my wrist, one on my inner elbow, and one on the back of my hand. I wanted to see how they smelled on my skin, because that can be totally different from the paper strip.

The Results

I walked around the store for a while, letting the fragrances develop. I kept sniffing my arm like a weirdo, but hey, I was on a mission! After about an hour, I had a clear winner. It was the one that stayed fresh and citrusy, but also had a nice, subtle woody base. Perfect!

So yeah, that’s how I found my new summer fragrance. It took some time and effort, but it was totally worth it. Now I smell amazing all day, and I don’t have to worry about smelling too much like a flower or a lumberjack.
