Les Mis Outfits: Get the Look with These Simple Ideas!

3

Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with Les Misérables lately – the musical, the book, you name it. And, of course, that got me thinking about the clothes. I mean, the costumes in the show are amazing, right? So I decided to try and put together some Les Mis-inspired outfits from my own closet. It was a fun little challenge!

Diving into My Wardrobe

First, I rummaged through my closet. I was looking for anything that felt, you know, vaguely 19th-century French. Think flowy fabrics, dark colors, and maybe some rustic textures. I don’t have any actual period costumes, obviously, so it was all about getting the vibe right.

Les Mis Outfits: Get the Look with These Simple Ideas!

The “Fantine” Look

  • I found a long, dark blue dress that I usually wear in the fall. It’s got a simple cut, nothing too fancy.
  • Then I layered it with a knitted, grey shawl – the kind my grandma would wear, super cozy.
  • I added an old, worn-out leather belt to cinch the waist and give it a bit more shape.
  • Finally,I kept my hairstyle messy.

It wasn’t a perfect replica of Fantine’s outfit, of course, but it felt…inspired, at least to me. I think the key was the layering and the muted colors.

The “Éponine” Attempt

Éponine’s look is a bit more street-urchin, so I went for something a bit more…raggedy, I guess? I wish that I can realize my “Cosette” Attempt.

  • I have a oversized and loose-fitting grey coat.
  • I paired a dark red scarf around my neck.
  • For the bottom I picked an old pair of dark wash jeans.
  • I even mussed up my hair a bit and left it down, trying to get that “I live on the streets” look.

Honestly, It’s great for me. Maybe I looked more like a modern-day hipster who’d just rolled out of bed, but I was going for “desperate and in love.” Close enough, right?

The Results?

So, did I magically transform into a character from Les Mis? No, not really. But it was surprisingly fun to try! And it made me appreciate the costume designers even more. They really do an amazing job of bringing the story to life through clothes. I feel happy that I try it, and it was a fun experiment.
