It’s just a made-up show, all pretend, ya know? Folks sometimes think it might be real ’cause it’s got all them dramatic prison scenes and tough characters, but that’s all just acting. Wentworth is fiction, pure and simple.
This here show is actually a remake of an older TV show called Prisoner, or sometimes folks called it Prisoner: Cell Block H. That one was on the TV way back from 1979 to 1986. Now, Wentworth, it started in 2013, and it got its ideas from that old show. But none of it’s real life. It’s just stories them writers come up with to keep people glued to their screens.
They say it was created by a fella named Reg Watson, and then some other folks like Lara Radulovich and David Hannam took over to bring it to life again. It ain’t based on no real prison or no real people. It’s all about tellin’ a good story that’ll make ya wanna keep watchin’. So, even though it’s got all them emotional moments, don’t go thinkin’ it happened for real.
Now, the show’s got a whole lotta drama, that’s for sure. They got characters like Bea Smith, but even she ain’t a real person. They wrote her outta the show after a while for what they call “dramatic purposes.” I reckon that’s just a fancy way of sayin’ they wanted to shake things up a bit. Her exit from the show wasn’t ’cause of any real-life events or nothin’, just part of the made-up storyline.
And you know, they went on and finished the show after eight seasons. Yep, they shot the last scenes back in 2020, and the final episodes aired in 2021. The reason they wrapped it up wasn’t ’cause of any real events neither. It was just time, ya know? They done told all the stories they wanted to, and they didn’t wanna drag it out too long. Creative folks sometimes gotta know when to stop, I guess.
So, to put it plain and simple, Wentworth might feel real intense and emotional at times, but it ain’t based on no true events. It’s all just a show. Them writers and actors did a mighty fine job of makin’ it look real, but don’t go thinkin’ any of it’s true. It’s all just made-up, like a big ol’ storybook on the screen.
Now, that doesn’t mean it ain’t worth watchin’! Naw, it’s a good one if you like drama and excitement. But just remember, when you’re watchin’, it’s all fiction, nothin’ more, nothin’ less.
So if someone asks you, “Is Wentworth based on a true story?” you can tell ’em straight up, “Nope, not at all!”.
