Yesterday, I cooked up a big batch of shrimp for dinner. We had a feast, but there were still quite a few leftovers. I’m always a bit paranoid about food safety, so I decided to do some digging on how long cooked shrimp actually stays good in the fridge.
My Leftover Shrimp Experiment
First, I made sure to cool down the shrimp quickly. I didn’t want it sitting out at room temperature for too long, I put the shrimp into a shallow container, that way they could cool down faster. And that felt better for my brain.

Then I put them into a shallow, airtight container. An airtight container is important, I think. I put it in the refrigerator.
Then I searched online about “how long is leftover shrimp good for?”
I found some useful tips online. Most sources said that cooked shrimp, when properly stored, is good for 3 to 4 days in the fridge.
Reheating the Shrimp (or Not!)
- I read you should reheat it slowly to prevent it from getting all rubbery and overcooked. No one wants rubbery shrimp.
- I used a low temperature in the microwave, which is my favorite way.
- Actually, cold shrimp is pretty good too.
Anyway, I ate the rest of my shrimp, and made sure to finish it up within that 3-day window. No food poisoning for me!
