Okay, so I had this recipe that called for a certain amount of some powdered ingredient, but it listed the amount in cc’s. My brain just doesn’t work that way! I’m used to grams, you know? So, I needed to figure out how to convert cc to grams for this powder.
First, I grabbed my phone and did a quick search. Turns out, cc (cubic centimeter) is a volume measurement, and grams are a weight measurement. It is not one-to-one conversion things. So, I realized I needed more info.

The key is something called “density.” Every substance has a different density – like, how much stuff is packed into a certain space. I found out that you need to know the density of the powder to do the conversion.
So, I went back to the recipe and luckily, it actually mentioned the powder’s density! It was something like 0.5 grams per cc (I’m making up a number here, don’t rely on this!).
Here’s the Math
- I took the amount in cc from the recipe (let’s say it was 10 cc).
- I multiplied that by the density.
In this case 10cc 0.5grams/cc=5grams.
Simple, right,I finally got the right amount of powder in grams and my baking day continued smoothly!
The biggest takeaway is that you can’t directly convert cc to grams without knowing the density of the substance. It’s not hard, but you can’t skip that density step!
