Okay, so I needed to bake this cake, right? And the recipe called for 280 grams of flour. Now, I don’t have a scale. I mean, who has a scale just lying around these days? So, I needed to figure out how many cups that was.
I grabbed my phone and did a quick search. Turns out, it’s roughly 2 1/4 cups. Phew, easy enough!
My Little Experiment
But then I got to thinking… how accurate is that really? So I decided to do a little experiment. I found my measuring cups – the ones I usually just eyeball, you know? – and started scooping.
- First, I scooped one cup, nice and fluffy, not packed down.
- Then another, same way.
- And for the last 1/4 cup, I tried to be extra careful, making sure it was level.
Honestly, it looked about right. It’s not like I’m building a rocket ship here, it’s just a cake! I think the online conversion did a pretty good job.
It did say that the amount could change a bit if my kitchen was super hot or cold or if my flour was weird, So I figured I was in the clear. I dumped the flour into my bowl and got on with the baking.
The important thing the flour was in the mix, and soon so was the cake into the oven!.
