Okay, so, today I dove into something pretty specific: figuring out how a man might divorce his wife in the Dominican Republic. Sounds simple, right? Nope. Not at all.
First, I tried to just Google it. You know, “Dominican Republic divorce process.” What a mess! I got a bunch of legal websites with confusing jargon. I don’t speak lawyer, I speak regular person!

So, I changed my approach. I started looking for forums, maybe expat groups or something, where people might have actually done this. I figured someone out there must have gone through this headache and could share some real-world advice.
Found a couple of forums, but it was mostly people asking the same question I was! Lots of “I think you need to…” but not a lot of “I did this, and here’s how…”
Then, I remembered a friend of a friend who mentioned living in the DR for a while. I dug up his contact info and sent him a message. Fingers crossed he responds and actually knows something!
- I spent a good hour just trying to understand the basic requirements. Like, do you both need to be there? How long does it take?
- I got completely sidetracked by some articles about residency requirements. Is that even relevant? No clue.
- I even tried to translate some Spanish-language websites, but my high school Spanish wasn’t really cutting it.
I’m still waiting to hear back. This whole thing is way more complicated than I thought. I’ll update this if i get this working.
