Best Hot Dog Sausage Rolls Ever? Check Out This Method!

Okay, so the other day I was craving something savory and fun, and I thought, “Why not try making hot dog sausage rolls?” I’d seen them online, and they looked pretty simple, plus I had most of the ingredients already.

Getting Started

First, I gathered everything I needed. This is what my list looked like:

  • A pack of hot dogs (I just used the regular kind)
  • Some pre-made puff pastry (because who has time to make that from scratch?)
  • An egg (for brushing on top)
  • Sesame seeds (optional, but they make it look fancy)

The Process

I thawed the puff pastry according to the package directions. While that was happening, I preheated my oven to around 375°F (190°C). This part is very * the pastry was ready, I rolled it out on a lightly floured surface. I didn’t want it to be too thin, just enough to make it easy to work with.

Then, I placed a hot dog at one end of the pastry and carefully rolled it up, making sure the pastry completely covered the hot dog. I pinched the seam to seal it, so it wouldn’t come apart while baking.

Next, I used a sharp knife to cut the long roll into smaller, bite-sized pieces. I made them maybe 1.5 to 2 inches long,I beat the egg in a small bowl and brushed it over the tops of each roll. This is what gives them that nice golden-brown color when they bake. Finally, I sprinkled some sesame seeds on top, just for a little extra something.

Baking and Enjoying

I placed the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper (to prevent sticking). And carefully put them in the preheated oven and baked them for about 15-20 minutes, until they were golden brown and puffy. You’ll know they’re done when the pastry is cooked through and the hot dogs are heated.

I took them out of the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving (because hot dogs straight out of the oven are VERY hot!). They were delicious! Perfect for a snack, a party appetizer, or even a fun dinner.

Overall, this was a super easy and fun recipe. I’d definitely make these again!
