You know, when we talk ’bout haunted places, I gotta tell ya, Australia’s got some spots that’ll make your skin crawl. Now, I ain’t one to believe in them ghosts and spooks too much, but let me tell ya what folks been sayin’. There’s some places in Australia, they say, full of spirits. Some say they seen ‘em with their own eyes, too! Might as well tell ya a bit ’bout ’em.
1. Quarantine Station, Sydney
Now, this place here, the Quarantine Station, it’s in Sydney, up on the North Head. Way back in the olden days, they used to send folks here who got sick. I reckon lots of folks died there, some say over 500! So, naturally, people start talkin’ ’bout how them spirits never left. There’s tales ’bout ghosts walkin’ around at night, whisperin’ and messin’ with folks. Some even say they hear screams from the hospital rooms. Ain’t nobody wanna stay there after dark, that’s for sure.
2. Picton’s Mushroom Tunnel, NSW
Now, this tunnel here, down in Picton, it’s got quite the history. Used to be a railway tunnel, folks say it’s haunted by a woman named Emily Bollard. Poor thing, she got hit by a train over 100 years ago, and some say she’s still wanderin’ round lookin’ for somethin’ or someone. I tell ya, them brave enough to walk through at night swear they feel her cold presence. Gives me the shivers just thinkin’ about it.
3. Princess Theatre, Melbourne
Now, this one’s a bit fancy. The Princess Theatre in Melbourne, it’s an old theatre, right? Well, there’s this actor named Frederick Federici who dropped dead right there on stage back in the 1800s. Folks say his ghost still roams the place, especially after shows. People claim they see him sittin’ in the audience, watchin’, or sometimes backstage, just starin’. Spooky, huh?
4. Norfolk Island
This one’s out in the ocean, Norfolk Island. From what I hear, back in the 1800s, they had some real rough convicts livin’ there. The conditions were brutal, lots of folks suffered, and some met real bad ends. People been talkin’ ’bout how the island’s haunted by the spirits of them convicts. They say you can hear chains rattlin’ and sometimes, you’ll feel like someone’s watchin’ ya. Sounds like a place you’d wanna avoid, huh?
5. Goodna Cemetery, Queensland
Oh, Goodna Cemetery. This here’s another one with some strange happenings. It’s older than Queensland itself, they say. Some stories, folks been buried more than once, somethin’ about graves movin’ around. They call it “Buried Three Times,” or somethin’ like that. People’s cars won’t start near the place, and there’s talk of headless angels and missing graves. I don’t know ‘bout you, but I wouldn’t go near there at night!
So, there ya have it. These places here, folks say they’re haunted, full of strange sounds, ghosts and spooks. Ain’t nothin’ fancy, but if you’re brave enough, you might go visit. Me? I’d rather sit by the fire and hear about it from someone else. But I tell ya, these haunted places, they got stories. Stories that’ll send a chill down your spine.
