Okay, so the other day I was staring at a mountain of mangoes. Seriously, I bought way too many. I love mangoes, but there’s no way I could eat them all before they went bad. Then I thought, “Can I just freeze these things?” I mean, I freeze other fruits, so why not mangoes?
My Mango Freezing Experiment
First, I grabbed a cutting board and a sharp knife. Gotta be careful with those slippery mangoes! I peeled all of them – which, let me tell you, took a while. My hands were sticky and mango-y, but hey, that’s part of the fun, right?

Then, I sliced the mangoes. I tried to make the slices kind of uniform, about half an inch thick, maybe? I’m not super precise, so they were all different shapes and sizes. Don’t judge!
Next, I grabbed a baking sheet and lined it with some parchment paper. This is important, trust me. It prevents the mango slices from sticking together in one giant, frozen mango clump.
I carefully laid out the mango slices on the baking sheet, making sure they weren’t touching. It was like a little mango puzzle. I actually ended up needing two baking sheets because, like I said, I had a LOT of mangoes.
Then, into the freezer they went! I left them in there for a good few hours, maybe four or five? I just wanted to make sure they were totally solid.
- Peel the mangoes.
- Slice the mangoes into pieces.
- Lay the slices on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Freeze until solid.
Once they were frozen solid, I took them out and transferred them to a freezer bag. Squeeze out as much air as you can from the bag – helps prevent freezer burn. I labeled the bag with “Frozen Mango Slices” and the date, because I’m fancy like that. (Okay, not really, but it helps me keep track of things.)
And that’s it! Now I have a big bag of frozen mango slices ready to go for smoothies, snacks, or whatever else I can dream up. They’re perfectly good, and it’s way better than letting those delicious mangoes go to waste. Definitely a win in my book!
