Quirky Non Traditional Wedding Dress: Find Your Unique Bridal Style!

Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into the world of “quirky, non-traditional wedding dresses,” and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride! I started this whole thing because, frankly, I was bored with the usual white, poofy gowns. I wanted something that felt like me, you know? Something with personality.

The Hunt Begins

My first step was hitting up Pinterest. I created a board and just started pinning anything that caught my eye. I wasn’t even thinking about “wedding” at first, just colors, textures, and silhouettes I liked. I ended up with a bunch of stuff – vintage dresses, colorful jumpsuits, even a few tutus!

Then, I started looking at actual shops. I avoided the big bridal boutiques at first, because I knew they’d be full of the traditional stuff. Instead, I checked out:

  • Vintage stores: Found some amazing pieces, but sizing was a real challenge.
  • Thrift shops: Surprisingly, I found a few cool skirts and tops that I could potentially mix and match.
  • Online marketplaces: These were a goldmine! Lots of independent designers and sellers with unique creations.
  • Regular clothing stores: I figured, why not? A dress doesn’t have to say “wedding” to be perfect.

The Trials and Tribulations (Literally!)

I ordered a few things online, and let’s just say… some were definite “nos.” One dress looked amazing in the photos, but when it arrived, it was made of this super-scratchy material. Another one was way too big, even though I checked the size chart. It was a learning process, for sure!

The vintage stores were fun to browse, but finding something that fit and matched my style was tough. I tried on a gorgeous 1950s dress, but it was two sizes too small. Heartbreaking!

DIY to the Rescue?

After striking out a few times, I had a crazy thought: What if I made (or at least modified) my own dress? I’m not a seamstress by any means, but I’m pretty crafty.I started thinking about adding colorful embroidery, dying a plain white dress, or even sewing different fabrics together.

I went on a fabric store and bought some fabric. I dyed the fabric into the color I wanted.

The (Almost) Finished Product

I’m still tweaking things, I practiced a lot of times and I think I got the perfect dress finally! It’s a mix of vintage and modern, with a pop of color that makes me *’s definitely “quirky,” but it feels 100% me. And honestly, that’s all that matters, right?
