So, the other day I was trying out this new recipe, and it kept listing ingredients in “tsp.” I’m more of a “grams” person myself, so I was like, “Okay, how much is 1 tsp actually in grams?”
My Little Experiment
First, I grabbed my phone and opened up a conversion calculator. Gotta love technology, right?

I typed in “1 teaspoon” and selected “grams” as the conversion unit. And boom! The screen showed me this:
- 1 tsp = 4.9289216145833 grams
Wow that’s a lot of numbers after that dot, I am not gonna remember all that.
I rounded that number to 5grams, It’s much easier for me.
I did some test with sugar and salt, using my kitchen scale, then I found that 1tsp sugar is about 4g, and 1tsp salt is about 6g. So that 4.9289216145833 must be some kind of average weight.
Finally, I figured out the recipe and made myself a nice meal!
